Janet Chaney

Janet Elaine (Brooks) Chaney, age 67, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, November 27, 2023 at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on December 10, 1955, in Anderson, she was the daughter of Roscoe Charles Brooks and Evelyn Louise (Castor) Brooks. Janet graduated from Madison Heights High School with the class of 1973 and received her nursing degree from Anderson University. She married Gregory “Greg” Allen Chaney on May 6, 1978 in Anderson.

Before retiring in 2017, she was a registered nurse at Hancock Regional Hospital for 39 years. As well as playing piano, Janet enjoyed reading and cross-stitching, for which she won many blue ribbons at the Riley Festival. She was a wonderful baker and was especially known for her delicious pumpkin pies. Janet was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship. She was a very generous and giving woman and cared deeply for others, donating to many causes throughout her life, such as Operation Christmas Child, The Wheeler Mission, Horizon International, and Fortville Food Pantry.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Chaney) Lawrence, and her husband Kyle; brother-in-law, Doug Chaney; and many other family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Evelyn; husband, Greg; and aunt, Pauline Kriegh.
