Anderson, Ind. — Anderson University’s Boze Lyric Theatre is ready to present its newest musical, Into The Woods, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Byrum Hall. Subsequent shows will be performed Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 18 at 2:30 p.m., Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m., and Feb. 24 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. The show will be the directorial debut at AU for Jason James, director of musical theatre and theatre.

“I’m really excited to be directing my first show here at AU,” said James. “I have loved Into the Woods since I was a kid, of course I gained an even deeper understanding for the piece as I got older. There is so much to discover in this show. It’s a wonderful piece of theatre for our students to dive into and work on their craft.”

Weaving together familiar fairy tales such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood, along with an original one (The Baker and His Wife), Stephen Sondheim’s most popular musical warns us to “be careful what you wish for.” Each character goes “into the woods” in search of something and is changed in the process. Filled with captivating music and brilliant lyrics, this is a deeply human show about community, responsibility, and the stories we tell our children.

“Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine created a timeless tale with Into the Woods, exploring the choices we make and the consequences that come with those choices,” said James. “I can’t wait to share this show with our community.”

Tickets for all shows are available online.
