Anderson, Ind. — The Anderson University Model Diplomacy program sent 13 delegates to the 30th Annual Midwest Model European Union hosted by the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University April 12-14.

AU students served as delegates to the EU from both France and Lithuania on the European Council and simulated meetings of ministers for Foreign Affairs, Environmental Affairs, Justice and Home Affairs, and Economic and Financial Affairs, as well as serving as members of the European Commission and the European Parliament.

Students wrestled with an incredibly wide range of topics that pertain to the European Union, as well as broader international political, economic, and humanitarian issues. These ranged from the Russo-Ukrainian War and the threat of a wider regional war in the Middle East to regulating fish pedicures.

A total of 140 students attended the conference, forming 23 delegations from 13 universities. AU was the smallest university present with other delegates participating from schools such as the University of Notre Dame, University of Illinois, Indiana University, Florida International University, and University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

AU secured three individual awards. Levi Taylor earned third place best delegate honors for representation of Lithuania on the Justice and Home Affairs Council, while Ethan Harp and Casey Davidson earned second place best delegate awards for their representation of France on the Environment Council and the European Commission, respectively.

Students also had the chance to meet with Mr. Walter Goetz, director of the European Parliament Liaison Office, Washington, D.C., and Mr. Gilles Landsberg, a minister counselor, from the Economic Section of the Belgian Embassy to the United States.
