Anderson, Ind. — Anderson University is set to host its annual Fall Into Dance program November 8 at 7:30 p.m. and November 9 at 2:30 p.m. Both shows will be held in Reardon Auditorium.
“Fall Into Dance features the choreography of our talented AU dance majors,” said Christine Thacker, assistant professor of dance. “In the spring, dance majors interested in creating for the concert submit a proposal for a danceworks, which goes through a stringent development process. Those selected audition the dancers, create a rehearsal schedule, and are critical to every aspect of curating a piece of dance that is finally seen on the main stage.”
Fall Into Dance consists of several independent pieces created by AU students. Produced by AU’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance but choreographed entirely by students, it is an important learning experience for students. Dance majors who meet certain academic requirements write and submit a choreographic proposal in the spring semester of the previous school year and upperclassmen dancers are chosen by student choreographers.
“It’s an exciting and very demanding project for our student choreographers, many of whom dance in one another’s pieces along with creating, choreographing, and rehearsing their own,” said Thacker. “Our dancers learn to set lights with our professional lighting designer, plan costumes, and have the full educational benefit of concert production from conception to curtain call. It’s an exciting evening full of dance that spans from religious and spiritual concepts all the way to jazzy fun.”
Tickets can be purchased online and are $15 for adults, $12 for military, and $7 for non-AU students. For more information call 765-641-4140 or email studentdance@anderson.edu.
