Anderson, Ind. — Anderson University recently received a $250,000 grant from the Avis Foundation, Inc. The grant is to be used for renovations to enhance instructional space for AU’s dance program by repurposing space within Krannert Hall to a new dance studio.

“We are honored to receive this generous grant from the Avis Foundation to help us expand and improve our award-winning dance program,” said President John S. Pistole. “We appreciate the intentionality of the Avis Foundation leadership in making this investment in AU as we live out our mission statement of ‘educating students for a life of faith and service,’ including in the arts.”

Anderson University intends to use the grant money to renovate the current Wilson Gallery in Krannert Hall to a permanent dance studio. The tall ceilings and large room will allow the dance program the necessary space to practice, while also giving the program the ability to install locker rooms and be in close proximity to the dance faculty offices.

“Through the years, we have built a unique and strong community in the performing arts, bringing together students and faculty members who are committed to transforming the world through their faith and artistry,” said Dr. Jeff Wright, dean emeritus and musical theatre and theatre coordinator. “The performing arts at AU is transformative for students and audiences alike.”

The Wilson Gallery will be moved to a wing in the Department of Communication and Design Arts, allowing Anderson University to continue showcasing student work and other special exhibits. To complete the renovations, underutilized classrooms in Krannert will be converted to shared space for dance and musical theatre students to rehearse.
