AU Announces New Women in Computer Science Scholarship

Anderson, Ind. — Anderson University and the Department of Computer Science have announced a new women in computer science scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to two incoming female students majoring in computer science or data science.
“This scholarship is intended to help alleviate the disparity that we see in the industry by encouraging women to explore the tasks and opportunities that exist within the technology sector,” said Dr. Matthew Preston, chair of the Department of Computer Science. “The computer science faculty are committed to addressing the disparity that exists in STEM areas and, ultimately, to offering hands-on, experiential learning that reflects the workplace our graduates are entering.”
There is no GPA restriction for the scholarship. Two recipients will be selected each year and awarded $2,000 each year toward tuition.
“Women considering computer science, data science, or cybersecurity would be well served by our department’s student to faculty ratio, internship opportunities, and deep network of alumni for both professional and personal development,” said Preston.
The computer science major at Anderson University emphasizes hands-on application of knowledge by incorporating state-of-the-art programming techniques and tools throughout the curriculum, which meets the most recent guidelines of the Association of Computing Machinery for computer science programs.
