Department of Social Work & Criminal Justice

The Social Work and Criminal Justice Department is dedicated to preparing students for impactful careers in advocacy, community support, and justice reform. With a focus on both theoretical foundations and practical skills, the department equips students to address complex social issues and promote equity within diverse populations.

AU also offers an associate’s degree in criminal justice, and students can also explore our minors in Sociology and Peace and Conflict Transformation. Depending on their interests and areas of study, students are prepared to enter careers related to law enforcement; courts and corrections; victim advocacy and assistance; family services and youth programs; family life or parent education programs; leadership roles in church, school, and community; entry-level positions in government or business; and social work. The programs also provide a foundation for graduate study.
