Anderson, Ind. — Holly Sims, assistant professor of visual communication at Anderson University, will have her artwork featured in downtown Indianapolis as a part of the Arts & Culture Initiative during NBA All-Star Weekend Feb. 16-18.

“I’m honored to be invited to work alongside some of the best street artists in Indy,” said Sims. “It is a supportive community that values making art accessible.”

Together, Indy Arts Council, GANGGANG, and the Indiana Humanities will bring to life a combination of light-based public art installations, sculptures celebrating Indiana’s basketball tradition, large-scale storefront murals, graffiti art, interactive pieces, and the return of Indiana’s equitable fine art fair – BUTTER at Indy’s Home Court. In addition to the visual arts installations, fans will be treated to 24 DJs throughout Indy’s Home Court, photo stations, and unique experiences in key fan zones like Georgia Street and Bicentennial Unity Plaza.

In partnership with the city of Indianapolis and curated by local artists Josh Brinson (Bezol One) and Mike Graves, Sims is one of 15 street and graffiti artists who will create new masterpieces on the Pennsylvania and Delaware rail underpasses, just north of South Street. The pieces on the Pennsylvania underpass will be basketball-themed, while the Delaware underpass will be a collection of freestyle pieces.

“Although my pieces will be large scale, I am playing just a small role in the many arts initiatives happening for the All-Star game,” said Sims.

Fans can also expect to see Ashley Nora ’12 featured in the BUTTER art fair. Nora’s work was recently featured at Anderson University during Homecoming weekend in 2023.
