Anderson, Ind. — Anderson University’s Dr. Janell Blunt, assistant professor of psychology, has returned to teaching this fall following a sabbatical in the spring of 2024. During that sabbatical, she was an invited speaker on effective learning strategies at multiple events across the country. Additionally, she had previously recorded an invited course with LinkedIn on “Strategies to Learn and Upskill More Effectively.” Currently, around 12,000 people have completed the course.

“I just completed this course and gained valuable strategies to enhance my learning and skill development,” Irmin Reyes posted on LinkedIn upon completing the course. “Key takeaways include active study techniques, staying motivated, and applying what I’ve learned effectively. Highly recommended for anyone looking to keep growing and learning!”

Dr. Blunt’s work with LinkedIn is now being featured in the “Six Critical Human Skills for the Age of AI” campaign that began in November and is free through December 31 to support the launch of the campaign.

“We live in a rapidly evolving world where new tools like artificial intelligence are changing the way we work and interact with other people,” said Blunt. “These changes make critical human skills like learning and upskilling more important than ever.”

Deborah Miller Fox, dean of the College of Humanities, Education, and Social & Behavioral Sciences, affirms Blunt’s efforts. “Consistent with her passion for scholarly research and her commitment to elevating the quality of scope of student research, Dr. Blunt chose a project that would advance our understanding of the animacy effect on memory in children and adults and benefit the intellectual growth and academic preparation of one of our honors students, Maddie McVey,” she said. “Dr. Blunt successfully completed the database that she and McVey set out to create, but equally important is the fact that this work helped the student gain acceptance into a prestigious Ph.D. program.”

“Additionally, Dr. Blunt and McVey were able to share their research findings in a presentation at the 96th annual meeting of the Midwestern Psychological Association. This kind of collaboration is only possible when a professor like Dr. Blunt recognizes her students’ capacity for scholarly contributions and when the faculty have the time that a sabbatical provides for focused research projects like this one.”
