Athletics Recap for the 2024-25 School Year

Headlining the Anderson University athletics 2024-25 season is three conference titles. Men’s soccer surged from the No. 4 seed to take down Hanover in the HCAC Tournament Championship in a match decided on penalty kicks. Men’s soccer has won the HCAC Tournament twice, but automatic qualifiers were not yet implemented in men’s soccer. The 2024 season marks Anderson’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Men’s basketball locked up its third consecutive regular-season conference title, including its second consecutive outright conference title. Baseball earned a share of the HCAC regular-season crown.

Men’s basketball senior, Tate Ivanyo, brought home a plethora of awards. Ivanyo was named the winner of two high-profile national awards. He was tabbed as the winner of the Jostens Trophy, which celebrates the player in NCAA D-III men’s basketball with the best combination of athletic excellence, academic excellence, community service, and character as recognized by the Salem Rotary Club. Ivanyo was also selected as the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, which recognizes the player in NCAA D-III men’s basketball with the best combination of athletic excellence and academic excellence as voted on by member Sports Information Directors. Ivanyo garnered many other accolades, which include NABC First-Team All-American, NABC District 8 Player of the Year, NABC NCAA D-III Resse’s All-Star, HCAC Player of the Year, D3hoops.com Fifth-Team All-American, consensus first-team all-region selection, and unanimous first-team all-HCAC selection.

Anderson athletics struck a partnership with Influxer Merchandise, a company that allows student-athletes to generate NIL revenue through merchandise sales.

Volleyball started off the season with a 10-2 record, the best 12-game start in program history. The Ravens finished 17-9, recording the team’s best record since 2006. Jayda Lanham was tabbed HCAC Newcomer of the Year. Lanham and senior Reece Kral garnered first-team all-conference. Men’s soccer senior Drew Vaughn was named first-team all-conference and second-team all-region. He also broke the career records for intercepts, defensive saves, and minutes played. Football reclaimed The Bronze Ball with a 31-17 victory against Manchester. Senior Tone Hurd was named D3football.com Third Team All-Region. Hurd and senior Connor Huffman each received first-team all-HCAC recognition. Women’s soccer tied for fifth in the HCAC standings.

Men’s basketball rolled to a 22-6 overall record and a 15-3 conference record. The Ravens advanced to the title game in the HCAC Tournament. Ivanyo closed out his career with 1,755 career points, finishing third all-time in school history and first since Anderson became an NCAA D-III school in 1993. Ivanyo drained a school record 255 3-pointers in his career. Sophomore Bryce Williams garnered D3hoops.com third-team all-region honors and first-team all-HCAC recognition. Sophomore Rob Davidson was tabbed as the HCAC Newcomer of the Year and also broke the single-season steals record. Women’s Basketball tied for fourth in HCAC standings and advanced to the HCAC Tournament Semifinals. Junior Izzy Davis was selected to the All-HCAC First Team.

Men’s track and field senior Michael Sweigart locked up first place in the weight throw in the HCAC Indoor Championships. A week later, Sweigart broke the weight throw school record with a mark that propelled Sweigart to sixth on the NCAA D-III leaderboard at the time. Sweigart qualified for nationals and took 10th in the weight throw, good enough for second-team all-American honors. Men’s swimming and diving junior Reid Haney captured first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle in the HCAC Championships. Haney is the first Raven (male or female) to win a swimming event in the conference meet in program history. The women’s swimming and diving team set three new program records. Anderson’s women compiled 443 points in the conference meet, which is a school record. Four top-three finishes in individual events at the conference meet is also a school record. The Ravens went 7-7 on the season, tying the program’s wins record.

Anderson Men’s Tennis took third in the conference standings and advanced to the HCAC Tournament Championship. During the ITA Regionals, sophomore Martin Suarez advanced to the consolation semifinals. Suarez and sophomore Arturo Mendoza both garnered first-team all-HCAC recognition. The women’s tennis team claimed fourth in the HCAC standings and advanced to the HCAC Tournament Semifinals. Freshman Abby Cunningham and sophomore Gabby Hosier finished first and second respectively in the school record book for most singles wins in a single season. Cunningham, Hosier and junior Ella Frantz each received first-team all-conference honors. The Anderson men’s golf team won two tournaments, including the program’s first since 2007. Men’s golf tied for third in the HCAC Preview, marking the program’s best finish in a conference preview since 2009. In the conference meet, men’s golf secured fifth to claim the program’s best finish in the conference meet since the 2010-11 season. Junior Luke LeBourdais tied for 10th in the conference meet to achieve the best individual finish by a Raven at conference since the 2008-09 season. The Anderson women’s golf team locked up two tournament wins, including the program’s first tournament win since 2006. Sophomore Hannah Emenhiser shot the best relative-to-par average at a conference meet in school history. Emenhiser’s sixth-place finish marks the best finish by a Raven at the conference meet since the 2013-14 season.

Anderson baseball rolled to a 26-16 overall record and a 15-7 conference record. Senior Charlie Jones, senior Landen Southern, sophomore Zac Stawski, and junior Griffin Wolf all collected first-team all-HCAC honors. Stawski achieved the rare feat of completing the HCAC slashline triple crown, which involves leading the conference in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage during the conference season. Anderson softball’s Maddie Schoenradt broke the school record of 68 career stolen bases as only a junior. With 81 career stolen bases, Schoenradt still has a full year to build upon her record. Schoenradt was tabbed with first-team all-HCAC honors. All-region honors for baseball and softball have yet to be announced. In men’s lacrosse, freshman Noah Walsh was named the HCLC Newcomer of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors. The Anderson University women’s lacrosse team finished second in the HCLC standings and advanced to the HCLC Tournament Championship, achieving each feat for the second year in a row. Freshman Sarah Weist was tabbed HCLC Newcomer of the Year. Weist, senior Lauren Brown, and freshman Julia Jarrells each received first-team all-HCLC honors. Senior Lillie Casey broke the school record in career caused turnovers.

Men’s basketball’s Tate Ivanyo and dual-sport athlete Lillie Casey (women’s lacrosse/women’s soccer) were named the 2025 Anderson Outstanding Senior Athletes.
