Join the Engineering department as they journey to the middle of the world at 10,000+ above sea level! Experience the sights and sounds of Quito, Ecuador before you journey to the Amazon jungle where you will have the opportunity to use your engineering skills to assist the local people. Traverse down a tributary of the Amazon river, spy native animals, hike to a waterfall, and learn how chocolate is made from beginning to end. End the trip visiting the equator and taking a ride up one the highest teleféricos in the world. You don’t want to miss this opportunity!

Itinerary

  • March 9: Team departs from US and arrives in Quito
  • March 10: Ecuador Orientation, Colonial Quito, Transfer to the Jungle, Dinner with Missionaries
  • March 11: Engineering Projects in the Jungle, Amazoonico Animal Refuge
  • March 12: Engineering Projects in the Jungle, Waterfall Hike
  • March 13: Engineering Projects in the Jungle, Chocolate Farm
  • March 14: Engineering Projects in the Jungle, Transfer to Quito
  • March 15: Mitad del Mundo Equator, Teleferico Gondola Ride, Evening Flight
  • March 16: Team arrives in the U.S.

Cost: $2,750 plus airfare (estimated at $1,555) =~$4,305

Cost includes round-trip airfare from Indianapolis, most meals, lodging, transportation in-country, orientation, group activities, travel insurance, and program tips. The exact airfare amount will be available upon booking with the airline.

Potential expenses not included in the cost may be a passport, visa, immunizations and vaccinations, departure tax, baggage fees, transportation to and from the departure city, trip cancellation insurance, some meals, and personal expenses.

Want to take your program for course credit?

This trip can be taken for course credit, ENGR 3080: Engineering Design for Service. It is your responsibility to sign up for this course with your advisor for spring semester.  If you have specific questions about the course, please contact Professor McKenna, bwmckenna@anderson.edu.

If you take the trip for credit, you can use financial aid to cover the cost of the trip. Your student account will be charged for the cost of the trip with the course in the spring. You will make payments as you normally would for spring tuition. If you have questions about potential financial aid available to you, please contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship at findaid@anderson.edu.

Important Dates

  • October 1 (EXTENDED DEADLINE-December 1):
    • Application
    • Copy of your passport or birth certificate
    • $2,750 due (no credit)
  • November 7: First group meeting
  • January 15: Airfare due (or remaining balance – no credit)

Cancellation Policy

  • 61 days or more prior to the start date of trip — Deposit of $300 per person is non-refundable as well as any flights booked for travelers (a credit per traveler may be issued through the airline).
  • 30-60 days prior to the start date of trip — Deposit of $300 per person is non-refundable as well as loss of any non-refundable excursions, any flights booked for travelers (a credit per traveler may be issued through the airline), and 25% of per person total cost.
  • 15-30 days prior to the start date of trip — Deposit of $300 per person is non-refundable as well as loss of any non-refundable excursions, any flights booked for travelers (a credit per traveler may be issued through the airline), and 50% of per person total cost.
  • 0-15 days prior to the start date of the trip — No refund will be given.
