Hazel Eugenie “Jenny” McKenzie

Hazel Neva Eugenie “Jenny” McKenzie, age 82, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, in Portland. Jenny was born Oct. 22, 1935, in Kingston, Jamaica to James and Esrene Campbell. She moved to Anderson, Ind., attending Anderson University receiving a bachelor’s degree and then a master’s degree in library science. She moved to Portland to become head librarian at Warner Pacific College. Jenny took time off to raise her children, then continued her library work for more than 20 years, including obtaining her professorship at Portland State University. Jenny had a passion for God’s work, was an active member of Holladay Park Church of God for more than 45 years and devoted many hours teaching Sunday school, managing the church library, and was active with the board. She was involved in missions work, making a couple of trips to Mexico and supporting missionaries all over the globe. Survivors include her husband, Compton McKenzie; sons, James Mckenzie and Tedd McKenzie; daughter, Cynthia Brookins; sisters, Ruth Chambers and Elaine Proctor; and brothers, Roy, Granville, Aubrey, Canute, and Clement Campbell.
