Whether in a business class, walking through the Valley, heading to an Avanti Boosters meeting or studying in Mocha Joe’s, senior Eduardo Gomez is rarely not chatting or laughing with someone. The very definition of an extrovert, Gomez considers himself an “unofficial member of almost every club on campus” because of his spontaneous attendance at various club meetings ⎯ an impressive feat when juggling business and honors classes.

Gomez entered Anderson University as a sports marketing student but eventually found the combination of finance and management to be a better fit. He now has a concentration in project management and is graduating an entire year early. He participates in numerous clubs and activities on campus including Student Leaders, Peer Mentors, Avanti Boosters, and helping in the Cultural Resource Center. If that isn’t enough, he is also part of the honors program. How does he do it all?

Gomez focused on one word when discussing his decisions and success: intentionality.

Intentionality has proven to play a crucial part in his life, especially in choosing a school. “That’s [something] that drew me here: how intentional professors were to get to know their students,” Gomez said. “Most of the business students I know, to some degree, have a good relationship with at least one professor.”

The community of students, faculty, and staff is a major reason Gomez loves AU. Although he couldn’t place his finger on it upon arriving as a freshman, he can now verbalize why he felt called to AU, “I felt it in my gut, or my heart, that there was something here for me. Now that I’m a senior, I’m glad to say that the feeling was correct… the people here are what really makes AU, AU.”

Along with intentionality and community, positivity is an incredibly significant part of Gomez’s life. Even with all the negativity in the world and the uncertainty of what his future holds, Gomez remains impressively optimistic. “With so much going on in the world, with so much negativity, I’d rather focus on what good is going on and try to pick everyone up,” he explains. “I’ll be a blessing in your life if you allow me to.”

Although he isn’t quite sure what his exact calling is yet, he is certain it has to do with people. With an unmatched enthusiasm and a light-hearted view of himself and the world, Gomez effortlessly brings light to everyone he meets.

“Anywhere I go, you know for sure I’m going to be enjoying myself. In whatever capacity that will be…I feel like I bring peace to myself, and I can extend that to others.”
