DC Devotion: Psalm 69
BY DAVID STANSBURY, CURRENT AU STUDENT & DISCIPLESHIP COORDINATOR
As you begin to read through this chapter, we can see that it starts off as a true cry for help and a confession of despair and sadness. “Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul”-Psalm 69:1. The first half of this chapter is the author describing all of the ways that he is being persecuted. Also, in the beginning of that chapter the author admits his faults and confessing his sins toward the Lord. “O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.”- Psalm 69:5. With this we can see the deep need for God that all of us have, not only our need for him to deliver us from all of our enemies and the things that want to destroy us, but also our need for him to save us from our sins. It also points out clearly that no matter what, no sin or transgression can be hid from the Lord. “But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.”- Psalm 69:29 In this we see the author expressing the same need that we should have. A need for God to fill us with joy and provide all that we desire. A need for the hope and salvation of the Lord to set us above the things that try to overcome us and bring us down. This chapter is a great example of the way that we need to talk to the Lord when we go to him in prayer. Showing that we should confess where we fall short and confess our deep and profound need for him, and also to express how God is amazing and powerful.
