Anderson University adopts Indiana College Core

Anderson, Ind. — Following a faculty vote, Anderson University has adopted the Indiana College Core (ICC) and aligned a 30-credit hour portion of its liberal arts curriculum with the ICC framework. This curricular change will apply to all incoming freshmen beginning in Fall 2025.

The update complements AU’s broader efforts to simplify curricular pathways, support dual enrollment students, improve advising, and remain competitive in recruiting and retaining Indiana students.

“Anderson University is firmly committed to a vibrant liberal arts education rooted in the truth of Jesus,” said Dr. Courtney K. Taylor, Provost. “The faculty’s action to update our curriculum allows AU to meet students where they are, and preserves the key curricular elements that make the AU experience unique.”

The ICC is a 30-credit hour general education block accepted at all public institutions in Indiana, designed to support seamless transfer across colleges and universities. It is increasingly being completed by high school students through dual enrollment partnerships. While the ICC includes core competencies such as written communication, quantitative reasoning, and social and behavioral ways of knowing, institutions retain flexibility in how they implement the framework.

“As students become more intentional about where they pursue their liberal arts education, we recognized the need to align our curriculum with the ICC,” said Curriculum Committee chair Dr. Janell Blunt. “With an increasing number of independent colleges in neighboring states offering this credential, it’s important for us to remain competitive and continue being a top choice for students seeking both quality and value.”

Although Anderson University’s liberal arts curriculum was revised in 2014 with the ICC framework in mind, this adoption formally recognizes the ICC as a transferable block. Students who matriculate with the ICC will complete an additional portion of AU’s liberal arts curriculum and continue to engage in signature courses such as Introduction to the Bible and a class within the Christian way of knowing category—ensuring that every student meaningfully experiences AU’s Christ-centered approach to education.

Anderson University educates students for lives of faith and service, offering more than 50 undergraduate majors, 30 three-year degrees, 20 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports, alongside adult and graduate programs. The private, liberal arts institution is fully accredited and recognized for excellence in business, computer science, cybersecurity, engineering, music, nursing, psychology, and teacher education programs. Established in 1917 in Anderson, Indiana, by the Church of God, the university remains committed to its Christ-centered mission.
