A Look Back on the Fleeting and Beautiful Twilight of College

College is a “magical” time in which students can experience their highest highs and their lowest lows. If done right, each has the unique opportunity to soak up their experiences and education, building a broad collection of things that can be applied throughout their life and career. For Steve Pierce, this is exactly the case.

Pierce is a 2005 Anderson University alum who graduated with degrees in history and theater studies. Pierce loved his time at AU and gained both knowledge and people who stick with him to this day.

I found people… well we found each other… who were kindred spirits in these sorts of micro-communities, and magically, in that time and place, all of these micro-communities could exist at once,” Pierce explained. “Flowing from family to family and growing with each one was an experience unlike any other.”

Pierce met some of his current best friends at AU, and even the woman who would become his wife. He credits his ability to learn and problem-solve to the university; the two things he claims to have been the most helpful throughout his life and careers post-college.

At present, Pierce has found a profession that he is more than content in – the “dream job.”

Working as an esports television and stream host, Pierce has the opportunity to travel the world and commentate on video games. “It freaking rocks, and I am not even going to try to downplay it,” he said.

“This is going to sound insane coming from a guy who makes his living talking about video games, but turn off the screen and touch grass,” said Pierce. “You have four years, or maybe five if you are in the victory lap program like myself, in this ethereal, in-between world.”

Pierce loved being a student at Anderson University, and, through his experiences and education, was able to acquire a job that he loves just as much.

“Anderson is a wonderful twilight between youth and adulthood where you will meet your people, maybe find your purpose, cry until it hurts, and hopefully laugh until you pee… be a part of it.” Pierce said. “Trust me, I hated turning off World of Warcraft as much as the next guy, but I have never regretted that I did… especially ‘cause I could still play late at night and just skip Dr. Murphy’s 8:30 a.m. class anyway!!!!! Seriously! Who schedules an 8:30 a.m. class?”
