Dr. Brandan Grayson
Chair of English and Modern Languages; Professor of Spanish
Dr. Grayson is passionate about teaching Spanish to anyone who finds their way into her class. ¡Todos pueden apreciar el español! Currently, she teaches as a generalist and also supervises students who complete the department’s experiential learning course by working as an interpreter at community organizations. One of her favorite classes to teach is Advanced Spanish I, where students polish their language skills while learning more about the impacts of colonization on Latino communities in the United States.
She is an enthusiastic reader of Golden Age Spanish Theater with expertise in Jesuit School Plays written across the Spanish Empire during the long sixteenth century. She enjoys researching the manifestations of Jesuit doctrine onstage and reading the Jesuits’ archival works.
At AU, Dr. Grayson has worked extensively with the First Year Experience Seminar and created its current curriculum that targets students’ holistic success. In her spare time, she enjoys sharing her Tejano heritage with students and leading field trips to Hispanic events. She is an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and a lifelong learner of the art of making a Spanish tortilla.
