Dr. Cara Miller
Associate Professor of English; Director of First-Year Writing
Dr. Cara Miller first came to Anderson University to study journalism. As an undergraduate, she wrote for the school newspaper, was active in a social club, went on a trip to Spain, experienced several valuable internships, and graduated summa cum laude. She enjoyed AU so much that she returned to work on campus less than a year after graduating — first in the Publications Office, where she focused on university marketing and communications, and then in the English Department, which she joined in 2011.
In addition to first-year composition, Dr. Miller teaches courses in creative writing, professional writing, and digital writing. She is also the writing program director, faculty advisor for the student-run literary arts magazine (Slates), and editor of the AU Press. Besides teaching, she is a managing editor for Indiana English and copy editor for two academic journals: Journal of Biblical Integration in Business and the Christian Business Association Review. Her own work has been published in The International Journal of Humanities Education and the Quarterly Journal of Speech. She has also presented research at a number of regional, national, and international conferences.
Dr. Miller serves on various university committees geared toward student success and marketing, including the Academic Assessment Committee and the Writing Intensive Subcommittee. She manages the English Department’s Internship Database and the Syford Poetry Contest. She also participates in SOAR activities as well as departmental initiatives to connect and collaborate with students.
She lives in Fishers with her husband and two sons and attends iTown Church.
