Brian McKenna is a licensed professional engineer who brings more than two decades of industry experience to his role as assistant professor of civil and mechanical engineering at Anderson University. With a background in civil engineering consulting, he has led high-performing teams and managed complex water resource projects, including dams, levees, and flood control systems. As the owner of HydroZon Engineering, LLC, Brian continues to provide outstanding engineering services for many clients as an expert in the field of dam safety.

In the classroom, Prof. McKenna emphasizes the integration of foundational engineering theories with hands-on design projects. He challenges students to leverage their understanding of core principles by engaging in practical, real-world challenges. This approach helps students deepen their knowledge and equips them with the skills needed to tackle complex engineering problems.

Prof. McKenna’s passion for mentorship extends beyond technical skills. He believes in empowering students to become self-learners and innovative problem-solvers. He believes in preparing students not only to succeed in their careers but also to use their engineering talents to serve others. He teaches courses in humanitarian engineering that help students think differently about how they can use their engineering gifts to impact the world.

Prof. McKenna holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Evansville. Outside the classroom, he is actively involved in service projects both locally and internationally, applying his engineering skills to make a positive impact in communities around the world.

Brian is married to his high school sweetheart, Jodi, and they have four amazing kids: Asher, Ezra, Gabe, and Naomi. As a family, they love to travel and spend time outdoors, exploring new places and enjoying nature together.
