Conversational Solfege

Andrew M. Himelick has taught elementary music for 31 years in Carmel, IN. He has been an Assistant Choir Director with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir for 25 years. He is a Butler University graduate and a specialist in both Kodály and Orff-Schulwerk pedagogies. He has been a presenter at state and national music education workshops and conventions as well as a guest clinician at choral festivals. He is an Endorsed Teacher Trainer with the Feierabend Association for Music Education (FAME) in both First Steps in Music and Conversational Solfege. He has resources published by GIA Publications: Sing in Parts Vol. 1, is a contributing author to Feierabend Fundamentals, and has taught sample lessons on the DVD First Steps in Music: In Action.  In 2006, he was awarded the Armstrong Teacher Educator Award from the Indiana University School of Education, in 2021 he was awarded the Indiana Music Education Association Outstanding Elementary Educator, and in 2022 he was teacher of the year for Towne Meadow Elementary School.
