Benjamin Waltz
Adjunct Voice Instructor
Benjamin Waltz is a conductor and music teacher who has worked with singers of all ages on three continents. Throughout his career, Ben has promoted the value of group singing through the use of diverse repertoire and by promoting contextual understanding through music. Mr. Waltz’s teaching positions have included Rossville Middle/High School, West Lafayette Jr/Sr High School, the American School in London (UK), and is currently working in Hamilton-Southeastern Schools. In these positions, concert choirs under Mr. Waltz’s direction competed at ISSMA State Finals, were selected to perform at the 2012 IMEA music teacher in-service, and collaborated with the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra and Lafayette Bach Chorale Singers.
Outside of schools, Mr. Waltz has served as Chancel Choir Director at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in West Lafayette and on the boards of the Indiana State School Music Association and the Indiana Choral Directors Association. While in Lafayette Ben was a performer, board member, and assistant to the conductor for the Bach Chorale Singers (Master Chorale) under the batons of Dr. William Gray and Dr. Michelle Louer. Mr. Waltz has conducted festivals across Indiana including Circle the State with Song, IMEA Honor Choir, and the Howard County Choral Festival. Though canceled due to COVID, Ben was slated to conduct the 2021 AMIS European Boys Honor Choir in Basel, Switzerland.
Mr. Waltz has earned his BM in Music Education from Anderson University and his MA in Music Education (Choral Concentration) from the University of St. Thomas. In his studies, teachers and mentors have included Dr. Richard Sowers, Dr. Fritz Robertson, Dr. Joani Brandon, and Dr. Angela Kasper.
