Women’s Philanthropy Council Makes a Lasting Impact at Anderson University

Through collective giving, service, and relationships, WPC members support projects and experiences that enrich AU students’ Lives.

ANDERSON, Ind. — For the last four years, the Anderson University Women’s Philanthropy Council (WPC) has worked to make a difference on the campus and for the university’s students.

The WPC embraces collective philanthropy, bringing together members committed to investing in the university. Through annual gifts, members pool their resources to fund projects that can make a meaningful difference across campus. Members learn about proposed projects annually and help determine where WPC funding will go.

Since its formation in 2022, the WPC has combined its resources to fund projects across campus. These include upgrades such as replacing the Valley lighting, revamping indoor campus spaces, and providing furniture to different clubs and dorms. The council has also helped fund other projects, including the creation of online tools and funding retreats, to name a few.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of the WPC is seeing the direct connection between our members’ generosity and the lives of AU students,” Linda Fishback-McCoy, WPC Anderson University Liaison, said. “Through the projects we fund, we get to see ideas become reality. We know that we are helping provide opportunities and resources that might not otherwise be available.”

Hearing from students and faculty who are impacted by these projects has reinforced just how important the work the WPC is doing is.

Community has also developed among WPC members. The program allows those who share a love for AU and a desire to invest in its students to connect.

“It has been a real pleasure for me, as an AU alum, to invite others to share my love and support for AU,” said Sandy Baker, co-chair of the WPC’s current charter team. “An added plus is the friendships that are renewed and supported through our joint efforts!”

WPC members give their time and resources to connect with and encourage students throughout the year.

Members have helped welcome new students and families on move-in days by volunteering and donating snacks and water. The WPC has also provided treats and encouragement to students during finals weeks.

Baker said these interactions put a face to the WPC’s financial support. Members connect with students by providing snacks during move-in days and finals.

“These opportunities allow our members to be personally present in the life of the university while showing students that there is a community supporting and encouraging them,” McCoy said.

The council also welcomes non-members to come alongside by helping spread the word about the impact the projects are making across AU. It encourages others who care about the university and its students to learn more about the WPC.

Additionally, sharing WPC stories and updates helps bring awareness to the ways members invest in the student experience. Those interested in making a deeper impact are also invited to consider becoming a member.

The women on the council seek to make a lasting difference in the student experience at AU. They hope to provide opportunities that enrich students’ education and help them thrive.

“Most of the women are alumnae of Anderson College and Anderson University,” Connie Hippensteel, WPC Co-chair, said. “We are so grateful for the academic excellence, Christ-centered atmosphere, and support we received as students. We want the current students to feel that same support as we all strive to carry out the mission of AU.” 

The WPC hopes the connections that are built will help students as they prepare to make their own impact in the world.

Hippensteel invites students to put on their thinking caps and send their proposals to the WPC.
