Tuition Exchange

Students with one or more parents employed at a participating institution are eligible for tuition exchange. Usually, there are between 25 and 35 new tuition exchange applicants with up to four admitted each year. The award is renewable for up to four years, and students must be enrolled full-time for the duration of the program.

Anderson University participates in three tuition waiver programs:

  1. Classification as an entering new student
  2. High school GPA
  3. ACT and/or SAT scores
  4. Parent employed full-time and eligible for the Tuition Waiver Exchange Program
  5. Major field of study
  6. Potential for leadership and contribution to campus life

Application process

  1. Submit your application for admission to Anderson University
  2. Students must be admitted to Anderson University and a FAFSA must be received by January 1, 2020
  3. Submit your application for tuition exchange and resume by Jan. 1 (form below)
  4. Upload a resume in the form below. Resume should include high school, community, and church involvement, highlighting leadership roles.
  5. Recipients will be notified by January 31

Awarding process

  • State grants will be applied first. This will require families to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Institutional aid will be applied next, including but not limited to academic scholarships and/or need-based grants.
  • The tuition waiver will then be applied to the remaining tuition balance amount.
    Please Note: The Tuition Waiver Exchange Program covers the cost of tuition only. Room and board charges and non-tuition charges are the responsibility of the student.

Who is eligible to apply for a tuition exchange scholarship (TES) to attend Anderson University?

You would be eligible to apply for a tuition exchange scholarship if you have a parent whom is employed at a participating institution (referred to as the host institution) and that institution certifies your eligibility for tuition exchange consideration. The tuition exchange liaison officer at the host institution must send the tuition exchange certification form to Anderson University.

How many students apply for and receive a tuition exchange scholarship each year at Anderson University?

Usually, there are between 25 and 35 new tuition exchange applicants. Up to four scholarships are awarded each year for all three programs (not in each program).

How are the tuition exchange program’s final decisions determined?

Awards are based on the student’s prior academic record, evidence of leadership experience in the student’s high school, local community, and church. This information is gathered through the applicant’s admission materials and additional scholarship application materials. All tuition exchange awards are highly competitive.

When should I apply for acceptance into one of the three tuition exchange programs?

To ensure consideration for a tuition exchange scholarship you will need to apply to Anderson University and be admitted prior to submitting the application form (from the exporting school). An on-campus visit is strongly encouraged.

The tuition waiver exchange program application must be received by the Director of Admissions (Anderson University’s liaison) on or before January 1.  You will then receive a confirmation letter with the Anderson University scholarship application. The completed scholarship application must be submitted no later than January 31. Award selection will be made by March 1 with notification by March 10.

New applicants must meet regular admissions requirements at Anderson University before being considered for tuition exchange scholarships.

Are there any other requirements for consideration of a tuition exchange scholarship?

Applicants must complete a scholarship process, a campus visit and tour, essays, and a listing of church, school, and community involvements.

Applicants must also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1. This form is usually available in high schools and colleges by late November. Tuition exchange scholarship recipients are not eligible for additional academic merit or talent awards from Anderson University. By filing the FAFSA, you may be eligible for additional need-based financial assistance from Anderson University. If you demonstrate financial need, any federal or state financial assistance that you receive will be coordinated with your tuition exchange scholarship and award, in accordance with federal, state, and exchange program regulations.

When will I know if I am awarded a tuition exchange scholarship?

All tuition exchange applicants are notified by phone or letter on or before February 20.

What is the value of the tuition exchange scholarship?

The amount of the scholarship award is in the amount of posted tuition and fees less an administrative fee of $425 per semester for a total of $850 per year. The administrative fee will be charged to the student prior to the beginning of the semester. This award does not cover housing, meal plans or fees.

Are there any special conditions attached to the tuition exchange scholarship?

The award is limited for use to the traditional undergraduate program. Remitted tuition scholarships through tuition exchange programs may not be used to meet expenses for Tri-S courses, non-credit courses, fees, room, board, off-campus programs offered by other institutions, other non-tuition charges, graduate study, online courses, second undergraduate degrees, or special studies programs.

If a tuition exchange scholarship recipient is not in attendance in an Anderson University tuition-charging program for longer than one semester, then the student would lose the tuition exchange scholarship and have to re-compete to receive this scholarship in the future.

If I am unable to receive a tuition exchange scholarship as a freshman, can I reapply as an upperclassman or transfer student for the tuition exchange scholarship?

Again, up to four scholarships are awarded each year for all three programs (not in each program).  Priority is exclusively given to first-time freshmen.  Current AU students or transfer students from other colleges are not eligible to participate.

What is the duration of the scholarship?

Tuition exchange scholarships cover four years (eight semester units) of full-time undergraduate education. The institution may extend a scholarship for a ninth semester under special circumstances, based on a written request from the student and reviewed by officials of Anderson University.

Must the recipient meet any requirements to maintain the scholarship?

The recipient must be in good academic standing at the end of the spring term preceding the renewal and must meet the university standards for personal conduct.

Must I renew the scholarship each year?

A student eligible for a tuition exchange scholarship must renew each year and is responsible for contacting their home institution to initiate a tuition exchange application form. This form should be filled out and sent to the office of the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Information Systems at Anderson University no later than March 1st.

What if a parent leaves employment at the exporting institution?

Family members of an employee who separates from employment at the exporting institution are subject to the following conditions:

  • students who have been certified and accepted, but have not started classes, will lose their eligibility for the exchange scholarship;
  • students who have been certified and accepted, and are currently enrolled in the institution, will be supported for the remainder of the current academic year;
  • it is the responsibility of the family to immediately notify the institution when the employee separates from employment at the exporting institution.

The family member whose employment conveyed eligibility for a scholarship must continue to meet the employing home institution’s eligibility criteria.

Must I confirm my acceptance of the tuition exchange scholarship?

To receive your tuition exchange scholarship, you must both confirm your attendance by written letter, and by sending your enrollment deposit to the Office of Admissions by May 1. After this deadline, your scholarship will be subject to withdrawal.
