Dr. Sally Kelley serves as adjunct faculty, leading our treble choral ensemble Vola Voce and teaching conducting and choral arranging. Dr. Kelley has over 10 years of experience teaching at the collegiate level, including at Middle Tennessee State University, Ball State University, and IU East. As a guest artist for a Theatre in Education course, she helped students write an original musical that they then took on a goodwill mission to Honduras. She has served as music director/accompanist for several collegiate musical theatre productions, including The King and I, Seussical the Musical, Children of Eden, and A Better Way.
 
Dr. Kelley has led choral ensembles of a wide variety of skill levels from community to professional. In 2019, she served as conducting scholar for the professional vocal ensemble VOCES8, assisting on recording projects, conducting a professional choir and orchestra, and acting as assistant music director of the Milton Abbey International Music Festival. Also in 2019, she appeared as a guest conductor for the Canto Lirico program at the Teatro del Bicentenario in San Juan, Argentina. During her studies at Ball State University, she was conductor of the University Choral Union and assistant conductor for the Statesmen, Women’s Chorus, and Chamber Choir. She has been the music director for various churches in Tennessee and Indiana. She currently acts as artistic director for White River Sound, a Sweet Adelines International chorus in Indianapolis.
 
Dr. Kelley holds active memberships in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO), College Music Society (CMS), and Chorus America. In 2019, she presented scholarly research in a poster session at the NCCO National Conference on “The Use and Treatment of Shape Note Tunes in Collegiate Choral Repertoire.” Dr. Kelley’s dissertation “Criterion for Tune: Identifying ‘New Englandly’ Traits of Alice Parker’s Choral Settings of Emily Dickinson Poetry” delves into the intersection of poetry and melody, specifically regarding these two New England icons.
 
Dr. Kelley resides in Muncie, Indiana and enjoys gardening, reading mysteries, and traveling as much as possible.
