Dec. 9, 2020 — Muncie City Councilman Ray Dudley is stepping down after his first year on council following his acceptance of a full-time job with Muncie Community Schools.

Dudley was hired by the Muncie Community School (MCS) Board as the new chief of security for the district. He will replace longtime security chief Chuck Hensley, who is retiring at the end of the month.

The former sheriff has already worked in full-time and part-time roles for MCS security throughout his law enforcement career, including a stint as the school resource officer at East Washington Academy during the 2019-2020 school year. During the hiring meeting, he referred to the chief of security position as his “dream job.”

Dudley is a Southside High School graduate, and studied criminal justice at Anderson University, according to a release. He served as sheriff from 2015-2018, a role in which he managed operations for the jail, as well as the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

Prior to his role as sheriff, Dudley spent 18 years as deputy sheriff.
