Dayan Smith sworn in as deputy

June 1, 2021 – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) in Columbus, Indiana, welcomed a new face on Tuesday morning as 23-year-old Dayan Smith ’19 was sworn in by Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers. He immediately began his duties at the Sheriff’s Youth Academy, which opened Tuesday at CERAland Park.

Deputy Smith is a graduate of Greenwood High School and Anderson University. The recruit spent one year as a member of the Columbus, Georgia, Police Department working on DUI and Family Violence cases.

“Our interviewing process found Dayan Smith to be BCSO’s top candidate. We are extremely fortunate he is now a member of our agency,” said Myers.
