What To Know About COVID-19 and Monkeypox

Anderson University students have arrived for another year, but health challenges persist across the country. COVID-19 is still active in our everyday lives and monkeypox surfaced earlier this summer. Below are some helpful tips and vital information for students and parents during the 2022-23 academic year.
COVID-19 Information
Anderson University campus protocols are shifting to a self-governance model for COVID-19. The university will continue to set community guidelines using public health guidance from the CDC. Moving forward, members of the AU community are asked to self-monitor, self-assess, and take action on their own behalf. Community members will be expected to navigate their health and care responsibly, demonstrating consideration for the community.
Symptomatic students will have continued access to appointments and testing services at Health Services. AU will not conduct surveillance testing moving forward, but is prepared to respond to new challenges and reimplement testing should circumstances necessitate it. The guidelines for COVID-19 are outlined below:

Monkeypox Information
According to the CDC, people with monkeypox get a rash that will go through several stages, including scabs, before healing. The rash can initially look like pimples or blisters and may be painful or itchy.
Other symptoms of monkeypox can include:
- Fever
- Chills
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Exhaustion
- Muscle aches and backache
- Headache
- Respiratory symptoms (e.g. sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough)
- You may experience all or only a few symptoms
Sometimes, people have flu-like symptoms before the onset of the rash. Some people get a rash first, followed by other symptoms. Others only experience a rash.
If you have a known exposure to monkeypox or develop symptoms that concern you, please make an appointment to see a health care provider right away.
