Spring Into Dance, Ballet 5:8 Coming to Anderson University

Anderson, Ind. — The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Anderson University is hosting its annual Spring Into Dance April 1 at 7:30 p.m. and April 2 at 2:30 p.m. All shows will be held at Reardon Auditorium.
The collection of works is choreographed by faculty and allows AU students the opportunity to explore a full range of artistic expression. Works ranging from modern and contemporary, to classical ballet, tap, and hip hop will be performed.
“My favorite thing about Spring Into Dance is that I’m able to perform with a group of wonderful, like-minded artists who work tirelessly to create beauty, strength, and raw emotion together,” said senior Aleksa Lawry.
There are nearly 25 students involved in the show and the work is choreographed by three full-time faculty members and three adjunct faculty members.
“I love being able to share my passion of dance not only with the audience, but with the department that has become my family here at AU,” said sophomore Rachel Morrow. “Every performance is also an opportunity for me to grow as an artist, which is something really special to me.”
Tickets for Spring Into Dance are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors/military, and $5 for non-AU students. All tickets can be purchased online.
Anderson University and Reardon Auditorium will also host Ballet 5:8 April 3 at 3 p.m. Ballet 5:8 is a Chicago-based group and will be performing Reckless.
Choreographed by Julianna Rubio Slager, Reckless upends the stereotypes surrounding sex work. Based on the ancient story of Hosea and Gomer, Slager allows Gomer’s voice to narrate the tragic and misunderstood realities of human trafficking.
“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to bring a professional dance company to campus whose mission is inspired by God in much the same way that drives our students’ love of dance,” said Rachel Stoneking, assistant professor of dance. “Ballet 5:8 is a wonderful example of arts in action, sharing a message that is both relevant and redemptive.”
Tickets for adults are $30, senior and student tickets are $27, and children 12 and under are $20. Tickets can be purchased online.
