Anderson, Ind. — Shannon Galyan ’22, a senior majoring in political science, philosophy, and economics with a double minor in peace and conflict transformation and nonprofit leadership at Anderson University, has been named the 2022 Law Scholar.

“As a single mother, this scholarship makes law school more affordable and lessens the financial burden on my family,” said Galyan. “This scholarship means my education is within my reach without having to bury myself in debt and helps me show my children that when one works hard, they can achieve their dreams.”

The program, offering recipients a scholarship to the IU McKinney School of Law, was created in 2015 to provide students an opportunity to follow the same educational path as Anderson University President John S. Pistole 78, a 1981 IU McKinney alumnus.

“Shannon has a passion to make a difference in the community coupled with the determination to become the best she can be,” said Dr. Michael Frank, professor of political science. “Not only has she performed at the highest academic level, her current work in the Anderson community, which is extensive, demonstrates her generosity and servant leadership. Shannon’s desire to give back to this community makes her an ideal recipient of the scholarship.”

Galyan will attend IU McKinney School of Law after graduation in May. She then plans to acquire her law license and potentially practice in Anderson or work at the State House in some capacity. During her time at Anderson University, she worked as a legal assistant for a local law firm and was initiated into two honors societies, Alpha Chi and Pi Sigma Alpha.

Anderson University is on a mission to educate students for lives of faith and service, offering more than 60 undergraduate majors, 30 three-year degrees, 20 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports, alongside adult and graduate programs. The private, liberal arts institution is fully accredited and recognized among top colleges for its business, computer science, cybersecurity, dance, engineering, nursing, and teacher education programs.
