Anderson, Ind. — Anderson University is partnering with FIRST® to offer scholarship opportunities to prospective students. FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a robotics community that prepares young people for the future through a suite of inclusive, team-based robotics programs for ages 4–18 (PreK–12) that can be facilitated in school or in structured afterschool programs.

“At Anderson University, we share FIRST® Founder Dean Kamen’s vision for First Robotics ‘to create a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders,’” said Dr. Chad Wallace, dean of the School of Science and Engineering. “The students who are building these robots could pursue their passions by studying in one of our engineering majors like mechatronics engineering, or coding in our computer science major.”

The mission of FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

FIRST® programs provide students early exposure to the engineering design process and help them develop practical, hands-on skills,” said Dr. Ben McPheron, chair of physical sciences and engineering. “These experiences prepare students to enter many of the fields in our School of Science and Engineering, where we emphasize hands-on experiential learning. We are proud to partner with FIRST® to provide additional opportunities for these students.”

Anderson University is on a mission to educate students for lives of faith and service, offering more than 60 undergraduate majors, 30 three-year degrees, 20 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports, alongside adult and graduate programs.
