AU Raven Core
Our Raven Core contains 30 credit hours of courses that align with the Indiana College Core (ICC). Students who complete the ICC in high school or at another institution can transfer this block directly into AU’s liberal arts requirements, ensuring a seamless pathway toward degree completion.
The Raven Core is grounded in the same statewide learning competencies as the ICC to help students develop essential skills such as communication, quantitative reasoning, and artistic exploration.
By aligning the Raven Core with the ICC, Anderson University ensures students arrive with momentum—having already completed the general education framework shared across Indiana—while stepping confidently into an AU education shaped by academic excellence, purpose, and Christ‑centered formation.
What is Indiana College Core?

The Indiana College Core (ICC) is a 30-credit-hour block of general education courses students can take in high school that is recognized in public universities across the state of Indiana. At Anderson University, the Raven Core is aligned with the ICC. This means that rather than transferring individual courses one at a time, Anderson University ensures that your ICC general education core moves with you, helping you start your college journey at AU with momentum.
Students who complete the ICC in high school begin their studies at Anderson University with a strong academic advantage. At AU, our liberal arts requirements are composed of the 30-hour Raven Core and the 15-hour AU Experience. The full 30 credit hours of the ICC transfer directly to fully satisfy the Raven Core requirement. This structure allows ICC students to focus earlier on their major, explore advanced coursework, or pursue additional opportunities while still engaging deeply in AU’s Christ‑centered educational experience.
What makes AU’s liberal arts curriculum distinctive is an additional 15 credit hours of courses that comprise The AU Experience—courses unique to our identity as a Christ-centered university. Here, faith and education intersect, creating space for the Holy Spirit to transform lives. In these classes, students learn not only about the world but also about God’s call on their lives, discovering how their education equips them to serve with wisdom, compassion, and courage. The AU Experience is a 15‑credit core composed of seven courses, intentionally designed around shared objectives, approaches, and learning formats that unite all AU students.

Finishing the ICC before high school graduation?
ICC coursework transfers seamlessly into the Raven Core, fulfilling 30 credit hours of AU’s general education requirements. If you enter AU with a completed ICC, you will take the remaining 15 credits through the AU Experience— a curriculum composed of common objectives that tells a story, honors our heritage as a Christian, liberal arts university, and equips our students to live faithfully and thoughtfully in a complex world. This approach allows you to save time and cost while still fully experiencing what makes an AU education unique.
Unable to complete the ICC before high school graduation?
- If you began but did not complete the Indiana College Core (ICC) before high school graduation, your coursework will still be reviewed for credit. At Anderson University, partial ICC completion is evaluated on a course‑by‑course basis using the official ICC Course Catalog to determine how each class applies to AU’s 30 credit Raven Core. This individualized review ensures you receive appropriate credit for completed coursework while maintaining the integrity of AU’s liberal arts curriculum.
- You will also complete the 15-credit AU Experience—a curriculum composed of common objectives, approaches, and formats that tells a story, honors our heritage, and equips our students to live faithfully and thoughtfully in a complex world.
No ICC?
- If you do not enter AU with ICC coursework, you will complete the Raven Core, Anderson University’s general education curriculum. The Raven Core fulfills the same core competencies as the ICC—such as communication, quantitative reasoning, and artistic exploration—while also reflecting AU’s Christ-centered mission and liberal arts foundation. Have non-Indiana college prep courses?
- If you have college credit from out of state, those courses will still be reviewed for transfer at Anderson University. Each course is evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis by comparing it to the courses listed in the official Indiana College Core (ICC) Course Catalog. When a course aligns in content and learning outcomes, it may transfer into the Raven Core to fulfill a corresponding general education requirement. This individualized review process ensures you receive appropriate credit for prior coursework while upholding the academic goals and structure of AU’s liberal arts curriculum.
