AU Boze Lyric Theatre presents Double-Billed Opera

Anderson, Ind. — Anderson University’s Boze Lyric Theatre will present an opera double bill, “The Unicorn in the Garden” and “Meanwhile, Back at Cinderella’s,” premiering March 2 at Byrum Hall. Showtimes include evening performances March 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee performance on March 4 at 2:30 p.m.

“The Unicorn In the Garden,” Russell Smith’s 1955 operatic treatment of James Thurber’s classic tale, is a wacky romp through the less than blissful domestic lives of an unnamed American couple, complete with a surprise ending and a unicorn!

The second half of the evening features “Meanwhile Back At Cinderella’s,” essentially a “What if?” version of the classic rags-to-riches tale, with music by Dennis Arlan and libretto by James Billings. What if the two step-sisters are charming and graceful, and Cinderella is not the classic heroine we know and love? What if the Prince turns out to be an equally unsuccessful misfit—and what if these two failures meet?

How will it all end? That remains to be seen by those who attend this night of fables and fractured fairy tales.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors/military, and $5 for children and students from other schools. For more information, contact the Byrum Hall box office at (765) 641-4140.
