Your computer must have a 10/100 network card. Most computers purchased within the last two years most likely have a network card.
Category 5e network cable. 25-foot cables are the standard length for the dorm rooms, although 50-foot cables are available as well. Network cables will be available for sale during move-in days. The price is very competitive, ranging between $5 and $10.
Windows must be fully patched. It’s a good idea to check for updates regularly. Before bringing your computer to campus, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to make sure all critical updates have been applied.
IMPORTANT: Obtain an antivirus program AND make sure it is
up-to-date. Each student is required to obtain their own antivirus
solution. There are free antivirus solutions available from AVG and AVast. If
you purchased a new computer, either uninstall the trial version of antivirus or
pay to activate the installed trial version.
Wireless access will be available in all public places, academic buildings and all dorms. Do NOT bring personal wireless routers and/or switches. Wireless cards should be 802.11a or 802.11g. We do not support "b" or "n" at this time.
Pack original CDs of critical software (Windows Vista, XP, Office, etc.). If a problem with the machine or software occurs, original software is required.
NO Windows ME. No Windows 98.
NO file sharing programs (i.e. Morpheus, Kazaa, LimeWire).
