Mentor Program

First time students are assigned a faculty mentor during their first year of classes in order to navigate the educational advising system. The role of the mentor is to provide an AU distinctive influence during the new student’s first year at AU, whether it is in advising, participating in New Student Orientation, or hosting students in their home.

A mentor provides:

  • a faculty resource person for students to address questions and help refer them to the available campus Support Services;
  • a listening ear for students when they express concern for problems and also celebrate with students their successes along the way;
  • help with registration and scheduling for the students who are undecided about their major.

Once students declare a specific major, they are assigned a Faculty Advisor in the department of the declared major.
