Athletic Training

Our Mission
The mission of the Anderson University Athletic Training Program is to prepare students, within a Christian, liberal arts tradition, as health care professionals for a lifetime of service to athletes and physically active individuals.

Description of the program
An athletic trainer is a highly qualified health care professional who specializes in prevention, recognition, management, and rehabilitation of injuries that result from physical activity. As a part of a complete health care team, the certified athletic trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals, athletics administrators, coaches, and parents. Students who want to become certified athletic trainers must earn a degree from an accredited athletic training program.

Qualifications
First and foremost, the athletic trainer must have a genuine interest in athletes and active individuals and have a sincere concern for the total well being of the athletes. The athletic trainer must have confidence, integrity, a sense of humor, good communication skills, and common sense. They must be skilled in the areas of taping, wrapping, padding, injury assessment, injury rehabilitation, and have knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures. The athletic trainer may also be involved in such areas as development of conditioning programs, nutritional counseling, equipment purchasing, equipment fitting, classroom teaching, budgeting, and administrative duties.

Not only will Anderson University prepare you for the certification exam, our ATEP will also prepare you for a life of professional service to physically active individuals. Come join a growing and continually advancing program and start your career in a rewarding allied health profession.
