The Boze Lyric Theatre Presents: L’Étoile (The Lucky Star)

by Emmanuel Chabrier
Jennifer Blackmer, guest director
Fritz Robertson, music director

Fri., Feb. 15 - 16 at 7:30 p.m.
Sun., Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
Location: Byrum Hall

Neglected for a century following its successful premiere in 1877, Emmanuel Chabrier’s delightful and whacky opera has made a considerable comeback in recent years. And well it should! Take an oddball king who likes to celebrate his birthday by executing one of his subjects, add a peddler and a princess-in-disguise who fall in love at first sight, mix in a doom-and-gloom astrologer and some other equally silly characters and you have more disguises, mistaken identities, and romantic complications than you can shake a stick at. All of this comes with a side of spoken dialogue and a main dish of sparkling, lyrical music, which includes wonderful choruses, a tickling trio, a tipsy duet, and a sneezing song! (sung in English with English surtitles)

Admission: $15 for adults; $12 for senior and military; $10 for students
