J. S. Bach, Saint John Passion
The Kammerbach Ensemble
William Jon Gray, Artistic Director
Fritz Robertson, Evangelist
Sun. March 10, 2013
2:30 p.m. at York Performance Hall
Bach’s masterpiece presents the passion story in a manner that is at the same time intimate and dramatic, packing an emotional punch that is immediate and lasting. Through the narrative of the Evangelist, the choruses of the crowd, the reflective arias and the congregational chorales, Bach sets scripture and poetry in music of heart-rending emotion and beauty. Under the direction of William Jon Gray and using performing forces the size that Bach himself would have had, these gifted singers and players from the IU Jacobs School of Music will offer this great story in the original German with English surtitles. The audience will be asked join in the congregational chorales which will be sung in English and led by the Anderson University Chorale. This performance features AU faculty member Fritz Robertson in the role of the Evangelist.
Tickets are $20 per performance with reserved seating for all performances. For ticket information, contact Beth Doub at (765) 641-4543, toll-free (800) 619-3047, or badoub@anderson.edu.
