Anderson University welcomed three new professors to campus this fall. Lee VanGroningen, Misty Chastain, and Laura Stull will all be serving as new assistant professors at AU. While VanGroningen is now a Raven at heart, Chastain and Stull are both AU alumni.

Lee VanGroningen joins the Math Department. As a recent doctoral graduate of Michigan State University, VanGroningen comes to AU excited to help shape the math department while getting to teach full time. “I am excited about the opportunity to know 90 new students and teaching several different topics,” said VanGroningen.

The self-proclaimed nomad grew up a pastor’s kid and has lived in nearly all parts of the Midwest at least once. VanGroningen also has a love for adventure; he is an avid runner, roller coaster enthusiast, and skydiver. When not in search of a thrill, VanGroningen can be found playing board games or getting lost in a good book.

Misty Chastain returns to AU as assistant professor of athletic training and clinical education coordinator. Chastain graduated from Anderson University in 2004 and received her master’s degree from Warner University in 2006. “I know from personal experience that we have a great athletic training program here. I wanted to come back to the family-type setting I found in the athletic training education program,” said Chastain.

Chastain is excited about spending her first years teaching at AU. “I am looking forward to getting to know students, welcoming in the new freshmen, and helping the program grow,” said Chastain. In her free time, Chastain enjoys catching up on her favorite sports teams, cooking, watching movies, and playing with her dog Randal.

The Psychology Department also welcomed a new face this school year. Laura Stull is the new assistant professor of psychology. Like Chastain, Stull is also an AU alum, graduating in 2006. “As a graduate of AU, I am looking forward to coming back to a community where I can begin to return what was invested in me. I wanted to, once again, be a part of the AU community, where the values are consistent with my own.”

Stull earned her M.S. and Ph.D. from IUPUI. In her free time, Stull enjoys running, baking, and gardening.
