Instructions for Students Applying for V.A. Educational Benefits

  • If you have received benefits at Anderson University in the past, you will need to complete a form called "VA Education Benefit Request Form" and turn this form in to the Office of the University Registrar or fill out form online. This form must be completed by all V.A. beneficiaries at least once per academic year. Before completing the Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits form, please read the information sheet for VA Educational Benefits. Active duty beneficiaries must submit a form for each term for which he/she seeks benefits. If a student has a break in his/her enrollment, a form must be submitted for each term in which he/she seeks benefits.
  • If you have never received benefits at Anderson University but have received them at another school, you will need to complete the following forms: "Request for Certification for Educational Benefits" and "Request for Change of Program or Place of Training" (VA Form 22-1995 for Chapter 30, 1606, Active Duty or VA Form 22-5495 for Chapter 35).
  • If you have never received V.A. educational benefits before, you will need to complete VA's application (VA-Form 22-1990 or 22-5490) and Anderson University "Request for Certification for Educational Benefits" (VA Form 22-1999).
  • If you are a reservist or National Guard, you will also need to obtain a Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) from your unit and attach it to your application materials, if eligible for a "kicker", copy of Kicker Contract.
  • If you are a veteran, you will need to provide a certified copy of your DD214 and attach it to your application.

All forms and application materials should be submitted to the Anderson University Office of the University Registrar in 258 Decker Hall. Forms should be completed in ink in their entirety with a legal signature and accompanying date.

Deadlines: Although the University may certify a student for benefits up to one year retroactively, students are urged to submit their requests for certification as much in advance as possible. Specifically, requests should be submitted at least 30 days prior to the first day of the term but no more than 120 days prior to the first day of the term. Please allow at least 14 days for the University to process your request.
