ANDERSON UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS

NAME, MISSION AND GOALS
Section 1 The name of this organization is the Anderson University Alumni Association.
Section 2 The Anderson University Alumni Association exists to advance the religious, educational, financial, recruitment and placement interests of the University and its students. The association is to provide a liaison between the alumni of Anderson University and its trustees, administration, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends.
Section 3 To implement this mission, the association has these goals:
- Develop programs that foster fellowship among alumni and encourage the physical and spiritual growth of the university
- Provide information to alumni about the programs and activities of the university
- Recognize distinguished alumni career and service achievements
- Encourage financial support of the university and its programs
- Assist the University with its interests
- Assist in the recruitment of students
- Assist the university in the career placement and networking of graduates
Section 1 Every graduate of all degree and diploma programs and every honorary degree recipient is a member of the association.
Section 2 Every non-graduate who has completed twenty four (24) semester hours and whose entering class has graduated is a member of the association.
Section 3 Spouses of members, parents of current and former university students, non-alumni faculty and staff, and former students with less than twenty-four (24) semester hours are associate members of the association. They can participate in all the activities of the association, but they cannot vote or hold office.
Section 4 Honorary members may be chosen by the council. These persons are interested in Christian higher education and have demonstrated commitment to the university. They can participate in all the activities of the association, but they cannot vote or hold office.
Section 1 The administrative year is from January 1 to December 31.
Section 1 A meeting of the association may be held at Homecoming. The council president and the Director of Alumni Relations determine the agenda. Additional meetings of the association may be called by the president or the council with notification given at least twenty-one (21) days before the meeting.
Section 1 The alumni council is the executive and administrative body of the association. The work of the association is facilitated by the Director of Alumni Relations.
Section 2 The council is to be representative of the diversity of the University.
Section 3 The council meets twice a year at Homecoming and in May. An informal informational meeting may be held in June. Special meetings may be called by the council president or the written request of five members of the council with notification at least fourteen (14) days before the meeting.
Section 4 The council consists of no more than twenty-five (25) members including four (4) ex-officio non-voting members.
- Twenty-one (21) members are selected by the council and ratified by the association
- A representative of the Student Government Association is an ex-officio non-voting member during the term of that office
- The Associate Director of Alumni & Parent Programs, Director of Alumni Relations and the Executive Director of University Relations & Alumni Affairs are ex-officio non-voting members
Section 5 A quorum for a council meeting is one-half (1/2) of its voting members.
Section 6 Members are elected to a three (3) year term. A member serves no more than two (2) consecutive terms.
Section 7 Members must be full members of the association.
Section 8 Newly elected members attend an orientation session with the executive committee, the Associate Director of Alumni & Parent Programs, Director of Alumni Relations and the Executive Director of University Relations & Alumni Affairs.
Section 9 Members attend all regularly scheduled council meetings.
Section 10 A member or officer may be removed from office by a majority vote of the council. Absence from two (2) consecutive meetings of the council is reason for removal. A member who is absent for two (2) consecutive meetings is considered to be inactive and subject for removal.
Section 11 If a member resigns or is removed from the council, the president appoints a new member to complete the remainder of the term in consultation with the executive committee. If the replacement is appointed to fill a term of office for two (2) years or more, that member is eligible for re-election to one (1) three year term. If the replacement is appointed to fill a term of office in the second or third years, that member is eligible for re-election to two (2) three year terms.
Section 12 All members of the Alumni Council shall, upon completion of their term automatically become members of the National Alumni Council Volunteer Corps.
Section 1 The elected officers of the council are president, president-elect and secretary. The officers are elected from and by the members of the council at its meeting at Homecoming.
Section 2 All terms are for one (1) year. Officers may have consecutive terms while they are members of the council.
Section 3 The president presides at all meetings of the association, council and executive committee; exercises the general executive control of the affairs of the association; executes the operating procedures and programs of the association and the council in collaboration with the Director of Alumni Relations; serves as an ex-officio member of all committees; represents the association at official university events; and perform duties delegated by the council.
Section 4 The president-elect fulfills the responsibilities of the president in the absence of the president; serves as an ex-officio member of all committees; becomes president at the expiration of the president’s term of office or upon the president’s resignation; and performs duties delegated by the president and council.
Section 5 The secretary records the proceedings of the association, council and executive committee meetings; collaborates with the Director of Alumni Relations in printing and distributing the minutes; and performs duties delegated by the president and council.
Section 6 The past president, who was the president the previous term, serves as a resource person for the president, the executive committee and the council; serves as an ex-officio member of all committees; and performs duties delegated by the president and council.
Section 1 Committee appointments are made by the president and the executive committee.
Section 2 Committee appointments are for one (1) year.
Section 3 The president, president-elect and past president are ex-officio members of all committees.
Section 4 The Director of Alumni Relations is an ex-officio member of all committees.
Section 5 The council has several standing committees.
The Executive Committee is comprised of the president, president-elect, past-president, secretary, and member-at-large. The Associate Director of Alumni & Parent Programs, Director of Alumni Relations and the Executive Director of University Relations & Alumni Affairs are ex-officio non-voting members. The committee has these responsibilities:
- General supervision of the affairs of the association and council between their meetings. It is empowered to act on behalf of the council through resolutions passed by the council and as instructed by the council. It is not to take action inconsistent with a prior council action, alter the constitution and by-laws or conduct major business reserved for the council.
- Determine long and short range council goals
- Recommend policies, programs and activities to the council
- Develop agendas for council meetings
- Appoint members to committees
- Fill the vacancies in the offices, council membership and committees between meetings of the council
- Select a member-at-large to serve a one year term
Section 6 Additional standing committees and necessary ad hoc committees are created by the executive committee with the approval of the council.
Section 7 Duties of the standing committees may become the responsibilities of the entire Alumni Council as deemed appropriate by the Executive Committee.
Signatures is the official publication of the university and the association.
Section 1 This Constitution and By-Laws are amended by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the council.
Section 1 This Constitution and By-Laws becomes effective immediately upon its approval by a vote of the association.
Section 2 This Constitution and By-Laws supersedes all previous Constitutions and By-Laws and statements by this association.
Section 1 The association is organized exclusively for educational, religious and charitable purposes.
