School of Music offers Master's degree progam

The Anderson University Department of Music recently announced the launching of a Master's degree in Music Education (M.M.E.), the first graduate degree program to be offered by the Department of Music. Since the University’s founding in 1917, music has always played a major part in the life of the campus community. The new program will be geared to elementary, middle school and high school music educators throughout central Indiana.

When Anna Shults (a 1996 graduate of Anderson University) was just a child, she dreamed of someday being a teacher – presiding over a classroom, instilling in others the same love of education she possessed. Still, in all her years playing “teacher” in her basement she never dreamed that she would be named the 2007 Indiana Teacher of the Year. In a surprise ceremony at Fall Creek Elementary School in Fishers, Indiana, that is exactly what happened.

But for 18 incoming freshmen to Anderson University one extra step was made possible to them for the first time to outstanding academic students and leaders in their communities. New to AU this year is a program that will integrate students into campus life in a different way.

Indy Colts tight end, Ben Utecht, visits AU

Ben Utecht, tight end for the Indianapolis Colts, recently spoke during chapel convocation on his testimony in life and on surrendering to God everyday “I am here today not as a football player but as a Christian,” said Utecht. Utecht brought a message that challenged chapel attendees to find the true meaning of surrender and how to look at our own experiences to see what God is trying to tell us individually.

“Surrendering is not a weakness or a passive act… but an active choice to run after God and to give everything to Him,” said Utecht.

Campus celebrates Constitution Day

A special event celebrating the U.S. Constitution will be conducted at Anderson University on Monday, September 18, at 7 p.m. in the lobby of Reardon Auditorium. The featured speaker during the event will be Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard. Judge Shepard’s address will be entitled, “Why America Needs Fair, Impartial and Accountable Courts.” The public is invited to attend this free event.

AU and Lilly host first Midwest EQ Forum

Traveling music groups, Dativus all celebrating with reunions

Homecoming 2006 will be filled with the usual exciting activities, from RavenFest4 to the football game. But two special events are being planned this year for music lovers and for Dativus alumni. A second Celebration of Song is scheduled for Saturday morning at 10 in Park Place Church of God. And throughout the weekend, Dativus alumni will be celebrating the club’s 35th anniversary through service and fellowship.

At the entrance between Rice and Dunn Halls at Anderson University a move-in team was loading and unloading dorm items at lightning speed Thursday morning. As parents drove up to drop off their newly registered freshmen, a tornado of helpers all wearing dark green T-shirts immediately swarmed each car. Pulling everything from computers to pillows and sheets to skateboards, cars were unpacked in a matter of minutes. “This is fantastic,” said Dawn Huguenard who was moving her daughter Charissa into the dorms. “I can’t believe they did this so fast.

AU named top school by U.S. News

US News and World Reporthas again ranked Anderson University among the best universities in the Midwest offering master’s level degree programs. Institutions in this category offer a full range of both undergraduate and master’s level degree programs. The magazine’s 2007 guide to “America’s Best Colleges” marks the third consecutive year that Anderson University has been listed among the best in its class. To rank schools, US News first organizes colleges and universities by category, and then ranks them within each group.
