Dorothy Frey and Heidi Leitzke featured in Second Nature art exhibit at AU

Dorothy Frey and Heidi Leitzke will be featured at the Second Nature art exhibition at Anderson University.

The Jessie C. Wilson Galleries at Anderson University are proud to present the Second Nature exhibition, featuring the work of artists Dorothy Frey and Heidi Leitzke from Sept. 8 to Oct. 14.

Frey has participated in a number of artist-in-residence programs, such as Art Farm in Nebraska, Millersville University in Pennsylvania and Chautauqua Institution of Art in New York. Recent exhibits include solo shows at Millersville University and Parlor Gallery, as well as group shows at Isadore Gallery, Demuth Museum, Bridgette Mayer Gallery and Gross McCleaf Gallery.

She also received a master's degree in fine arts from American University in Washington, D.C., as well as a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Millersville University. She also participated in the World Capital Program in Corciano, Italy.

Leitzke is familiar with art at Anderson University, having graduated from AU with a bachelor's degree in 2002. She also graduated with a master's degree in fine arts from Western Carolina University in 2006. She also studied at the Chautauqua Institute School of Art and American University's Art in Italy program.

Leitzke received a Juror’s Mention from critic Jerry Saltz for her piece Gate in June 2014. Her embroideries were recently featured in Interwoven: Art, Craft, Design at Arlington Art Center and in several group shows at Bridgette Mayer Gallery in Philadelphia. Her paintings have been included in exhibitions at Denise Bibro Fine Art and the Bowery Gallery, both in New York City.

She has also taught at the Chautauqua Institute School of Art and Drexel University. Leitzke has been working as Gallery Director and Adjunct Fine Arts Instructor at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design since 2006.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the artists will be presenting a lecture at 7 p.m. during the opening reception on Monday, Oct. 13. The opening reception begins at 6 p.m.

The Jessie C. Wilson Galleries serve Anderson University and East Central Indiana with monthly exhibitions that feature the work of regionally and nationally recognized artists. Through these exhibitions, the gallery is dedicated to enriching and engaging AU students, as well as promoting the visual arts within the greater community.
