The Ministries Council of the Church of God and the Anderson University Board of Trustees recently announced the sale of 37.7 acres of property from Church of God Ministries to Anderson University. It is anticipated that the sale of property, located east of the university campus, will occur in the fall of 2006 and will be funded by private donations to the university for this purpose. The sale of approximately $4.2 million includes the appraised value of land and other considerations. To date, a majority of the resources needed for the transfer have been received or committed to the university through private donations. The sale was endorsed by the General Assembly of the Church of God during the North American Convention in Anderson (June 23-28).

"The Resolution presented by the Ministries Council to the General Assembly concerning the transfer of property to Anderson University signals a positive future for Anderson University and the Ministries Council,” said Dr. Ronald V. Duncan, general director of Church of God Ministries. “This transaction will provide for the future expansion of Anderson University and its desire to continue being a leader in Christian higher education and an integral part of the Church of God.”

“We welcome the opportunity to work with Dr. Duncan and Church of God Ministries to acquire this beautiful tract of land,” said Dr. James L. Edwards, president of Anderson University. “We will plan carefully for best uses as we think about an expanding future for Anderson University.”

Added to the present campus of approximately 125 acres, the acquisition will bring the campus to approximately 163 acres. The addition will enable master planning discussions for future buildings, improved parking and walkways, recreational and sports activities and ample green spaces.

The agreement between Church of God Ministries and Anderson University states provisions for use of university facilities and grounds during the North American Convention of the Church of God in Anderson. Also, as a part of the property transfer, Church of God Ministries will remove asbestos and raze the building known as Warner Auditorium east of the Krannert Fine Arts Center. The sale of property from Church of God Ministries to Anderson University will include the following:

  • Approximately 29.4 acres bounded by both Krannert Fine Arts Center and Executive Drive on the west, University Boulevard on the north, Nursery Road on the east, and East 5th Street on the south.
  • Approximately 8.3 acres bounded by the university soccer field on the west, East 5th Street on the north, Nursery Road on the east, and residential development on the south.

The purpose of Church of God Ministries (based in Anderson, Indiana) is to strengthen and enhance the ministries of local congregations as they work to extend the Kingdom of God through the Church of God. This is accomplished in partnership with state and area assemblies, national organizations, and “cutting-edge” ministries.

Anderson University is a private, four-year, Christian liberal arts institution of approximately 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students. Established in 1917 by the Church of God, the university offers more than 60 undergraduate majors and graduate programs in business, music, nursing, education and theology.
