There’s been enough time and distance now to poke fun at Cold War fears.
But it’s best if those jabs are fresh and relevant for younger audiences.
Red Herring, the current theater production at Anderson University, fits some of those demands as a farcical take on Communist spies, the Eisenhower era and, in particular, the impact of 1950s’ paranoia on the relationships of three couples.
While some Anderson University students headed home for the summer or took on internships, AU dance students Lizzie Loveland, a junior, and sophomore Brittany Hinkle packed their bags for a four-week trip to Mysore, India.
Along with Dance Area Coordinator Shauna Steele, 12 students from the University of Michigan, and two of their professors, Loveland and Hinkle were immersed in Indian culture.

The Anderson University School of Adult Learning (SOAL) celebrated its 25th anniversary by presenting the Alpha Sigma Lambda award and highlighting SOAL’s service to adult students during an open house on Oct. 5.
Anderson University will host the NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championships at Yule Golf Course in Alexandria on Nov. 10.
The Great Lakes Region includes all the NCAA Div. III schools in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. The meet rotates between those states every three years and determines who advances to the NCAA Div. III national cross country meet.
Joe Cook may not be an Anderson University graduate, but he understands the university’s community impact and significance.
“What they are doing there is amazing,” said Cook, 82, who was named the 2012 William P. Riethmiller Community Partnership Award recipient during AU’s annual appreciation dinner Saturday. “It is such a blessing what has happened there over the years that I feel like it is a good place to support in whatever way we can.”
Rawlin Kegley, an Anderson University senior majoring in Christian ministries, traveled to the Dominican Republic with Athletes in Action (AIA) over the summer. Kegley has been a member of the AU baseball team throughout most of his college career.
Fans of the Beatles — and of pop culture for that matter — recognize Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band as one of rock ‘n’ roll’s first “concept” albums.
“But what’s the concept behind it?” asks Jonathan Brooks, a Beatles aficionado who is a music professor at Anderson University. “I never find anybody who tries to describe what that concept is.”

The No. 3 seeded Ravens (10-10-1) advance to the championship game where they will play regular season champion and top-seed Transylvania University (15-1-2) on Saturday in Lexington, Ky., at 1 p.m.
Anderson University welcomed three new professors to campus this fall. Lee VanGroningen, Misty Chastain, and Laura Stull will all be serving as new assistant professors at AU. While VanGroningen is now a Raven at heart, Chastain and Stull are both AU alumni.
The sky was a dull gray, a stiff wind was blowing leaves all across the practice field and most of Anderson University’s men’s soccer players were wrapped in several layers of clothing to defend against the elements.
And, yet, there was no place junior Brad Rusche would rather have been on Monday afternoon.
