Duane Hoak receives Community Service Award

Retired Anderson University administrator Duane Hoak received the Madison County Bar Association’s Community Service Award on Tuesday at an Anderson Rotary Club luncheon at Anderson Country Club.

Hoak-2001Bill Pitts, who presented the nomination of Hoak to receive the award, lauded Hoak for decades of service to community and statewide organizations.

Anderson University alum Cody Young was 10 years old when he looked into the eyes of a doctor and asked if he was going to die.

The prognosis wasn’t good. Young had Phase 4 cancer, and the medical opinion was that he would not live to see adulthood.

Tuesday the Baltimore Orioles prospect was honored as the 2010 winner of the Carl D. Erskine Award of Excellence during a ceremony at Anderson Country Club.

Parents take heed: There is hope for your children.

Just look at the stories in the book of Genesis. Though it can be a bit disheartening to hear of Adam and Eve turning away from their father, or Cain slaying brother Abel, there is hope for future generations.

Or so says the message in "Children of Eden," a musical on stage at Byrum Hall at Anderson University.

AU alum Kyle Lacy's breakthrough

Kyle Lacy’s breakthrough idea for a company came at a drive-through restaurant.

He was at a McDonald’s when friend and fellow Anderson University graduate Brandon Coon called him.

“It’s kind of funny if you think about it. Brandon called me up and asked if I wanted to start a marketing firm. We had always talked about it through college and now was the time. We started it the next week,” Lacy said.
