Anderson University will receive $375,000 from Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc., for a sustaining proposal to provide students more opportunities and incentives to keep them in Indiana upon graduation. Anderson University will welcome Dr. Walter Kaiser, the Colman M. Mockler distinguished Professor of Old Testament and President Emeritus of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Mass. for the 2008 Newell Lecture, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Dr. Kaiser served as president of Gordon-Conwell from 1997-2006.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is granting $328,754 to help 14 Indiana communities keep plastic, paper, aluminum and other recyclables out of landfills. Anderson University received $25,000 to convert itself into a more recycling-friendly campus, with plans to use the funds to purchase recycling trailers, bins and totes, and a campaign to inform students and faculty about the new recycling opportunities on campus.
A Ripple of Hope, a documentary film created by Covenant Productions® at Anderson University, has been named as an official selection in both the New Orleans Film Festival (October 10-16) and the Heartland Film Festival based in Indianapolis (October 16-24).
Dr. Kevin Radaker, chair of Anderson University’s English department, will present his dramatic portrayal of Henry David Thoreau during a special appearance as part of a four day convocation in Concord, Mass. on October 11.
The Anderson University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter recently discovered a whole new way to teach students about trading and operating in a free market—chickens. SIFE’s Global Chicken Challenge, conducted on the AU campus Sept. 4, gave students a chance to experience the world of bartering and trade first-hand, in a game as unique as the name suggests.
A special event celebrating the U.S. Constitution will be conducted at Anderson University on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. in the lobby of Reardon Auditorium. During this event, the Indiana Court of Appeals will hear oral argument on a pending case, Caesars Riverboat Casino, LLC v. Genevieve M. Kephart.
Five Anderson University School of Education Juniors spent 10 days this summer teaching in Kodiak, Alaska. The students were participants in a program sponsored by AU School of Education, the Tri-S Office, and alum Marilyn Davidson, Director of Curriculum and Instruction in the Kodiak School system.
Seniors Reid Alspaugh of Rushville, Ind., and Sarah Henry, of Westfield, Ind., interned over the summer at the Indiana Department of Education. Alspaugh worked in the Office of School Accreditation & Awards under the supervision of Gary Wallyn, Director of School Accreditation & Awards.
The John A. Morrison faculty award recipient, Dr. Dale Bales, was announced at the annual May luncheon before Bales retirement started while Jan Schmidt was presented the Morrison staff award at the opening session in August. The John A. Morrison award recognizes service to Anderson University as exemplified by Dr. Morrison, the University’s first president. Dr. Morrison had a vision for Christian higher education and gave his time and energy to creating the foundation of what is now Anderson University.
