The Anderson University community is deeply saddened by the tragic events that have recently occurred in Blacksburg, Virginia. The prayers and concerns of the Anderson University campus reach out to the families and friends of victims as well as the entire university community of Virginia Tech.
It's entirely possible that Hoosiers soon will drive electric cars with nanoparticle batteries, have their car seats adjusted continuously for better comfort, and then park those cars in garages they ordered off the Internet. Those are just a few of the ideas being pursued by entrepreneurs at the Flagship Enterprise Center in Anderson. The center, a joint effort of the city of Anderson and Anderson University, opened in 2005 with the goal of attracting new and more diverse businesses to the area.
AU students Tiara Nash and Matthew Ingalls recently received the 2007 Nicholson Student Servant Leadership Award for services on campus and in the community. The awards were made possible by a grant from the Moore Foundation and Barney II Foundation as well as matching funds directed to the university by donors Lowell ansd Dorothy Williamson. The award is named in honor of Dr. Robert A. Nicholson, president emeritus of Anderson University.
As a part of its 2006-07 Guest Artist Series, Anderson University will host a Thodos Dance Chicago in Byrum Hall on Friday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. As an innovative contemporary dance company, Thodos Dance Chicago's mission embodies a new model for contemporary dance within Chicago and across the broader dance community. The Company's blend of dance performance, dance education, and creation of new work provides its artists with the maximum opportunity to grow.
Anderson University will welcome renown peacemaker Colman McCarthy on Thursday, April 12, at 10 a.m. during chapel/convocation in Reardon Auditorium. Colman McCarthy is teacher and a journalist who has written for The Washington Post. He is also the founder and director of the Center for Teaching Peace, a nonprofit group that helps schools begin or broaden peace studies programs. The center also conducts workshops and seminars on conflict resolution and mediation.
Everyone knows you can hear a symphony, but the Anderson University fine arts seniors have composed a visual symphony - a masterpiece of multi-media. Recently unvieled, the Senior Art and Design Exhibition is titled “Symphony in Sight.” And it’s truly amazing. Approximately 10 rooms on the fifth floor of the Union Building, located on Meridian Street in downtown Anderson, have been transformed into a professional gallery to showcase the students’ work.
Leaning over 7-year-old Victor Hamm, Eastside Elementary special education teacher Stacy Cook guided the young boy’s hands while he glued colorful beads onto a folder. “Good job,” she told her student. “You’ve done excellent.” Next, Cook picked up colorful foam cutouts shaped like feet. Squirting a dollop of white glue on the folder, she instructed Hamm to line them up.
Gary Gerould [BA '62] giggled as he recalled the story, knowing darn well it was a bunch of bull. The episode starts with him getting word over a police scanner chaos had broken out along the heart of Highway 99's run through Chico [California]. The primary news man for local KHSL radio at the time, Gerould immediately jumped into his cherry red Ford Falcon and arrived at the scene as the drama heightened.
Anderson University will welcome Dr. Ronald J. Sider to the campus April 16-17, 2007 to lecture on the topic of “Living Biblically in a Contemporary Culture.” Lectures will begin at 9 a.m. and will be conducted in Park Place Church of God.
When Jason Hays was growing up, he wanted to be a pizza man. “Then I wanted to be an astronaut,” said the 21-year-old Anderson University junior from Avon. “In high school, I got interested in graphic design but that really never went anywhere. Then, my senior year of high school, I really got interested in law enforcement." Recently awarded a coveted summer internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Hays is well on his way to landing his dream job.
