School of Education offers dual licensing program

The Anderson University School of Education has announced the launch of a dual licensing undergraduate program for Special Education and Elementary Education. The program will focus on skills needed to teach every child between birth and age twelve. The dual licensing program was created in response to the critical need for highly-trained professionals who know how to teach and work in the inclusive classroom and with every child. The program was created through cooperation with area teachers, parents, schools and the State of Indiana.

Longterm professor and museum founder dies

Anderson University is saddened by the recent loss of Dr. Gustav Jeeninga, professor emeritus of Biblical Studies and founder of the Gustav Jeeninga Museum of Bible and Near Eastern Studies on the campus of Anderson University. Jeeninga was the founder and director of the Jeeninga Museum of Bible and Near Eastern Studies. After founding the museum, he served as its director from 1963 to 1992.

AU SIFE student wins national scholarship

AU senior student Katherine Hinkley, president of Anderson University SIFE, was recently awarded the Jules and Gwen Knapp Excellence in Free Enterprise Scholarship. Hinkley received the scholarship during the 2006 SIFE USA National Exposition in Kansas City, Mo. The scholarship is awarded each year to a SIFE Team member in his or her junior year of college who has made a significant difference in helping others succeed in the free enterprise system. The scholarship includes full tuition, room and board, fees and books for the entire senior year.

AU concert to open Church of God convention

Anderson University will open the 2006 North American Convention of the Church of God with a special concert on Friday, June 23, at 7 p.m. in the Ward Fieldhouse of the Kardatzke Wellness Center on the northeast corner of the university campus. Entitled, "Sanctuary," the opening event will premiere a new work under the same name created by PraiseGathering Music and will celebrate the heritage of the Church of God. AU president, Dr. James L. Edwards, will host the event.

School of Nursing welcomes GSA scholars

The Anderson University School of Nursing recently welcomed 13 scholars from the Philippines who will be living in the United States for the next 4 years and six months earning their MSN-MBA degrees while working for Community Health Network---specifically at the Community Hospital North location. The visiting scholars come to Anderson University through a program sponsored by Global Scholarship Alliance (GSA) that provides work/study scholarship programs which combine scholarships at American universities with multi-year work appointments in US hospitals.

The approximately 570 soon-to-be graduates talked about sports scores near home and new driver’s licenses for places far away as they wound over the familiar brick-lined sidewalks and past the peaceful gray-stone buildings for the last time as students.

AU honors four during commencement

Anderson University will honor four persons with honorary degrees during commencement exercises, Saturday, May 6. The 3 p.m. program will be held in the Ward Fieldhouse of the Kardatzke Wellness Center. Speaking during the commencement ceremony will be John Pistole, deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Anderson University’s baccalaureate service will take place earlier that day in Reardon Auditorium at 10 a.m. Speaking during Anderson University’s baccalaureate service will be Rev. Dale Fontenot, senior pastor of New Life Church of God in Palmetto, La.
