Janice Fulkerson

Dr. Jan Fulkerson is a professor of education and dean of the School of Education.  Prior to being appointed Dean in 2011, Fulkerson taught the elementary methods course in social studies and children’s literature and the assessment course for elementary and secondary education majors.  Fulkerson also co-designed the year-long student teaching program for the SOE and served as co-director of Anderson University’s Honors Program for five years.

Fulkerson holds a Doctor of Education degree from Indiana University in curriculum and instruction and educational leadership, a Master of Arts degree in education from the University of Evansville, and a Bachelor of Arts from Brescia University in Kentucky.  In addition, she holds a gifted and talented (K-12) license from Purdue University and an administrator’s license from Butler University.  Her areas of specialization are in gifted and talented education and classroom assessment.

Prior to joining the AU faculty, Fulkerson was director of professional development and gifted/talented education for MDS of Lawrence Township for 14 years.  Previous to her administrative duties, she was a classroom teacher and teacher/consultant for gifted/talented education in MSD of Wayne Township.  She also worked as a consultant for the Indiana Department of Education in the field of gifted education during the summer months.  Serving on the state cadre for gifted education, she has given numerous presentations to school districts across Indiana, as well as on the regional, national, and international level.  She served as President of the state association for gifted and talented for three years.

Her research and professional interests include brain research on learning and its application in the classroom and co-teaching models for the classroom.  She is an avid reader enjoying children’s literature, biographies, historical fiction, and nonfiction.  Her interest is in American History and visiting historical sites, especially civil war battlefields.  She enjoys spending time with her family and friends both here and in Southern Indiana/Western Kentucky.

Dr. Jan Fulkerson has been at Anderson University since 2001.
