Dr. Jan Fulkerson is a professor of education and dean of the School of Education. Before being appointed last year as dean, Fulkerson taught the elementary methods course in social studies and children's literature. She also taught the Assessment for the Classroom course to both elementary and secondary education majors. Fulkerson co-designed the year-long student teaching program with Dr. Linda Duncan. Besides her teaching duties, she served as co-director of Anderson University's Honors Program for the past five years.
Fulkerson holds a Doctor of Education degree from Indiana University in curriculum and instruction and educational leadership, a Master of Arts degree in education from the University of Evansville, and a Bachelor of Arts from Brescia University. In addition, she holds a gifted and talented license from Purdue University and an administrator's license in supervision from Butler University. Her areas of specialization are in gifted and talented education and assessment.
Prior to joining the AU faculty, Fulkerson was director of professional development and gifted/talented education for MSD of Lawrence Township for 15 years. Previous to her administrative duties, she was a classroom teacher and a teacher/consultant for gifted/talented education in MSD of Wayne Township. She also worked as a consultant for the Indiana Department of Education in the field of gifted education during the summer months. Serving on the state cadre for gifted education, she gave numerous presentations to school districts across Indiana, as well as on the regional, national, and international level. She served as the president of the Indiana Association for the Gifted for three years.
Fulkerson is an avid reader enjoying children's literature, biographies, historical fiction, and nonfiction. Her interest is in American History and visiting historical sites, especially civil war battlefields. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends both here and in Southern Indiana/Western Kentucky.
