Overview

Anderson University’s Musical Theatre program promotes strength in singing, dancing, and acting — the three main skills of the musical theatre stage. Students are given a broad musical context from which to grow their performance skills, and our faith-supportive environment adds depth to the emotional expression of our graduates.

Productions

The musical theatre and theatre programs at Anderson University are designed to help you develop your acting and directing skills, while also learning about the historical and technical aspects of performance productions.

Performance opportunities each year include two main stage productions, two lyric theatre productions, and two black box productions. In addition to working with our own faculty, students work with a variety of guest artists and guest directors to develop their artistry and enhance their professional skills and connections.

  • Optimal size for expanded opportunities. The smaller theatre program at AU translates to small class sizes and multiple performance and backstage opportunities, giving graduates marketability in all areas of the theatre.
  • Classes build upon elements from previous classes. This process assures each graduate a level of competency having mastered a method for their craft.
  • Working with professionals. In addition to instruction by faculty in AU’s theatre program, students work with seasoned industry professionals in Indianapolis and central Indiana.

Careers

We prepare graduates to perform in musical theatre productions through training in acting, singing, and dancing, as well as experience working with choreographers and directors. Our graduates are developed into performers with skills in singing, dancing, and acting that give them a leg up at auditions and as part of casts.
